Overview: Intensive Reading and FCAT Preparation involves the study of various genres of literature (including poetry, short stories, drama, and novels). As students focus on increasing their vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills, tthey will be prepared to suceed on the FCAT Reading and Writing examinations.
Students are expected to bring appropriate texts, workbooks and/or novels to class daily. Also, regular attendance is important since much of the assigned reading and writing will be
completed in class.
It is essential that all students bring their reading materials to each class. This reading material may include works of fiction or nonfiction, but may not include magazines. Approximately every two weeks the students will take class trips to the library so that they can obtain books of their choosing. Students are required to read school-appropriate material (i.e. from the school media center or has teacher approval). Classwork grades are assigned to reading and journal entries each day. Students who forget their books will lose the classwork grade and will have to read the class textbook. It is therefore important that all students bring reading materials within their interest area to all classes.
